Dynamically crack-bridging surface protection system.
Assignment and requirements
The steel structure of a building is particularly vulnerable to frost and the ingress of de-icing salts (chloride). For this reason, a tested coating system based on OS 11a should provide special protection in this multi-storey car park in Weißenhorn, GERMANY.
Particularities and challenges
The requirements for this surface protection system included dynamic crack bridging, e.g. in the event of thermal or mechanical influences and the resulting changes in crack width. This was crucial to prevent the penetration of chemicals through the cracks and thus corrosion.
Due to the area of application, particularly on the exposed car park deck, the top sealer had to be resistant to light and weathering.
The solution
The installed K2 KLB PARKING PU OS 11a system creates optimum conditions for the safety and durability of concrete surfaces. With a slip resistance level of R11 and a certain mechanical stability, the flooring ensures safe vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Thanks to its increased dynamic crack-bridging properties at low temperatures of down to -20 °C / -4 °F, the OS 11a coating reliably protects the underlying building fabric: such a long-term intact surface provides watertightness and therefore protection against chemicals such as engine oil or fuels.
The system meets all the requirements of TR maintenance (2020) and RiLi SIB (DAfStb, 2001) standards, and is suitable for interior parking spaces or driveways as well as for open decks exposed to sunlight. For ramps, the robust K1 system was used.
