Warehouse facilities of an automotive supplier
Overcoating of a tiled old floor with rear surface moisture penetration.
Assignment and requirements
This object required a resistant floor surface with an osmosis-blocking intermediate layer to protect the epoxy resin flooring from rearside moisture penetration. The coating had to be applied on an old floor of fireclay tiles.
Particularities and challenges
Just as in this case, damp substrates carry the risk of osmosis, which occurs when moisture penetrates the reactive resin coating from below and forms bubbles on the surface. This industrial area presented another challenge: the original covering made of old fireclay tiles. Here, particularly thorough substrate preparation was necessary so that the old joints would not be visible through the new coating.
The solution
System A4 KLB Industrial Robust offers a resilient and smooth surface for storage areas that are exposed to loads from industrial trucks. Special attention had to be paid to the substrate preparation in order to be able to overcoat the original surface. A water vapour-permeable mineral primer was applied underneath system A4. To smooth the joints of the old floor covering, a self-levelling 2-component epoxy cement mortar was used as an osmosis-inhibiting intermediate layer. These preparatory steps guarantee a permanently economical floor, before a final coating can be applied with our robust A4 system.
