Floor coating in an operating room

Assignment and requirements

During an operation, very sensitive technical measuring instruments are used, which need to be protected from static electrical charge. The floor must also be easy to clean and meet the high hygiene standards in the medical sector.

Particularities and challenges

This particular project required a floor covering with uniform conductivity, that is at the same time easy to clean and resistant to disinfectants. In order to carry out a jointless installation over several floor areas, the coating needed to have sufficiently flexible properties.

The solution

Our System F6 KLB CONDUCTIVE LOW-VOC PU ESD Elastic has been developed to meet exactly these requirements. After preparing the substrate, a dissipative base coat was first applied, followed by a conductive polyurethane coating as main layer. The latter has good acid resistance and flexibility to remain elastic even when the substrate deforms. Finally, a matting and electrically dissipative sealer was used to ensure uniform conductivity across the entire surface of the operating room. As an alternative to the actual build-up of the F6 system, PU 813 EL+/ESD was applied as top-sealer – which increases the resistance to disinfectants.
