KLB Kötztal has become a member of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). This is a recognised organisation specialising in the promotion of sustainable construction.

Sustainable building: the DGNB certification system
Sustainability in construction is not just about using environmentally friendly building materials or energy-efficient technologies: it encompasses a holistic view of buildings over their entire life cycle – from planning through the construction phase over to first use. It combines economic, ecological and social aspects.
DGNB’s certification and sustainability approach is based on a three-pillar model. This means that buildings should not only be economically viable, but also resource-efficient and socially responsible. This includes a comprehensive and life-cycle approach, but also their long-term use and flexible convertibility, the reduction of CO2 emissions and the promotion of biodiversity.
Also the well-being of building users is part of the approach, and is particularly impotant for coating materials: only building products with a low VOC content (volatile organic compounds) are used here to keep emissions as low as possible. This ensures better indoor air quality – an important aspect for health and well-being, especially for public facilities and rooms where people frequently and preferentially spend time.

A good room climate with low VOC-emissions, attractive appearance and the exclusive use of DGNB-certified products – these were the requirements for the new flooring in the daycare centre for children in Herrenberg, Germany.

At HKR+ Partner Architects, it was necessary to replace the old flooring by a low-VOC coating system, which fulfils high visual standards and takes into account health or sustainability requirements.
Showroom Polestar
A low-emission coating system was used for this presentation and sales area to fully comply with indoor air quality requirements. Only products with low VOC values were installed.
