Wall coating in the sanitary area of the Ulm University of Applied Sciences
Moisture-tolerant, chemical-resistant wall coating to match the flooring.
Assignment and requirements
As part of the new building complex at Ulm University of Applied Sciences, it was not only the floors in the toilets that needed a reactive resin coating: the walls throughout the sanitary area were also to be equipped with a KLB product which, together with the flooring, should result in a uniform appearance.
Particularities and challenges
The wall coating had to be resistant to water and chemical substances. This was also important in view of the frequent cleaning of the facilities to make floor maintenance as easy as possible.
The chosen reactive resin covering enables seamless transitions between floor and walls, making for particularly hygienic and easy-to-clean surfaces. At the same time, it is colour-stable and sufficiently durable for this specific area of application.
The solution
The low-emission and fast-curing EP 727 E primer was used here. PU 662 was applied as wall coating with the insertion of reinforcement fleece VA 1044. The number of layers is crucial to achieve a high load-bearing capacity. Subsequent fine trowelling with PU 662 resulted in a smooth surface. The coloured matt sealer PU 806 E – Wall and transparent protective layer PU 880 were applied to finish off the build-up.
Deviating from the existing water-resistant coating system, a slightly modified version was used for the areas that do not come into contact with water. Here, PU 662 and the reinforcement fleece were dispensed with. Instead, several coloured and matt sealing layers were applied using PU 806 E – Wall.
