Floor coating in the toilets of the Ulm university

Wet-loadable, slip-resistant floor covering in the hygiene and toilet area of a public facility.

Assignment and requirements

Cleanability, sufficient resistance to water or wear, a certain degree of anti-slip properties to guarantee sure footing, as well as a long-term visually pleasing appearance: these were the functions that the floor coating in the toilet area of a new building complex at the Ulm University of Applied Sciences needed to show.

Particularities and challenges

Therefore, a flooring system had to be used that combined all these requirements. For use in toilet rooms, moisture resistance and mechanical robustness were necessary to avoid any permanent damage to the floor.

The risk of water puddles or splashes on the floor causing people to fall was minimised by providing sufficient slip resistance. This should, however, by no means stand in the way of an easy-to-clean and at the same time, attractive surface.

The solution

With a slight modification of an existing coating system, it was possible to install a floor covering in the sanitay area that fully met the university’s demands. EP 175 Spezial can prove its advantages when being used as a decorative binder for thrown-in glass beads: the low yellowing tendency of the transparent plastic as well as its good material durability make the floor very long lasting.

EP 860 was used as matt sealer to significantly improve the chemical and water resistance as well as the system’s overall robustness. Frequent cleaning cycles, which are common in public areas, cannot harm the coating as it protects the surface.
