Creative floor design using paper shreds

Floor coating in the office complex Antwerp Tower.

Assignment and requirements

In other parts of the Antwerp Tower in Belgium, the floors of a meeting room and corridors were enhanced in the most decorative and innovative way possible:

by applying a coating and distributing paper strips and confetti over it. These were then sealed in several layers so that they are completely embedded into the resin.

Particularities and challenges

The main objective of the flooring for this particular project was to create a unique and distinctive look: it had to be not only visually appealing, but also hard-wearing and robust.

One of the biggest challenges was to ensure long-term colour stability in the face of sunlight, even with the bright light grey colour of the coating, to create a surface with lasting appeal.

The solution

The coating used was our KLB-SYSTEM POLYURETHAN PU 405, which provides a certain degree of walking comfort.

This was followed by a first sealing layer of KLB-SYSTEM POLYURETHAN PU 811 E. Paper strips were spread over the freshly applied material on the corridor floors. To repeat this design, the same paper waste was inserted into a hollow glass handrail in the hallway. Snippets from the hole punch were scattered like confetti around a circular meeting room.

Three layers of top sealer help to protect the confetti.
