Designing highly decorative surfaces with EC 450 DECOR

KLB-SYSTEM EC 450 DECOR is a modern and trendy flooring system for designing creative and vivid floor or wall surfaces. Personal preferences and ideas can be clearly shown: whether classic and traditional or an expressive structure – EC 450 DECOR offers all the options to optimally set the scene for walls and floors. Depending on the requirements for durability and appearance, the application is done in just two trowel coats and different colour shades to obtain an individual, personal look.

EC 450 DECOR is low-emission, easy to apply and produces very attractive surfaces in a special design look.

The product was awarded the Eurofins “Indoor Air Comfort Gold” label for its low emissions. EC 450 DECOR is perfectly suited for interior use due to its very low VOC emission values, but also the low-odour formulation. Due to the easy application, all floor and wall surfaces can be designed completely freely according to customer and applicator wishes. It is also highly suitable for renovating outdated areas such as old ceramic or synthetic resin coverings to make them attractive again.

Suitable application areas:

Any representative area such as exhibitions, museums, shops, foyers, private living rooms or modern loft flats are ideal. Surfaces with wet exposure like private or commercial bathrooms, showers and sanitary facilities can be (re)designed in a timeless and modern way – in such areas with heavy water load, however, it is essential to plan for a waterproofing layer. This enables you to renovate your bathroom without removing tiles. Applied within the system, EC 450 DECOR can be used to create new and decorative wall or floor surfaces on old, out-of-date existing tile coverings in above-mentioned areas – while also having a good mechanical load-bearing capacity. The floors and walls made with this design trowel coating are easy to clean and resistant to many household chemicals.

One spatula technique, a thousand possibilities…

The decorative trowel coat is applied to the prepared floor or wall surface by pulling off the entire area in an even layer. Use a suitable stainless steel trowel. While still fresh, the material is smoothed and structured or modelled in the desired look. This can either be realised tone-in-tone or in different colours, which you can choose from our EC 450 DECOR colour chart.

Trowelling technique à la Veneziano

To create a surface where the individual trowel strokes – i.e. the applicator’s “handwriting” – are visible, the first coat is trowelled and individually structured. After this layer has hardened, the second one can be applied over the entire surface in the same or a contrast colour. Structures and effects can be realised in different ways, giving each surface a very personal touch. The still somewhat rough surface can be made smoother by subsequent grinding.

Trowelling technique for marble look

A mottled effect can be achieved by working with two different colour tones that are applied “fresh-in-fresh” at the same time. To do so, the first colour is applied in spatula; the other shade is dabbed on in portions and at regular intervals. The entire surface is then smoothed with a suitable smoothing tool. The two colours can be blurred into each other to create the desired marbling. After hardening, the area can also be sanded flat.

To further protect the fresh surface, we recommend applying a layer of the unpigmented sealer PU 811 E. For walls, please use the respective mural variant PU 811 E – Wall.*
