Fast renovation of a wholesale bakery's warehouse

Assignment and requirements

The raw material warehouse of an industrial bakery had to be renovated with a least possible downtime, and without interrupting the running operations. Therefore, a robust and structured utility surface was required to ensure good slip-resistance.

The coating should be able to withstand changing temperatures in the immediate vicinity of the gates for incoming goods as well as to medium mechanical stress from storage activities.

Particularities and challenges

Particularly the high time pressure with the least possible business interruption demanded a very fast system that could be walked on again after just a few hours.

In order to achieve a good levelling of the surface to be coated, multiple scratch coats were needed to avoid oil contamination or unevenness.

The solution

A system with very fast curing times was used for this project: System G6 KLB INDUSTRIAL PU RX Rapid which fulfills exactly such requirements.

The rapid-setting primer can be reworked after only 2 – 4 hours which makes it possible to apply base coats and scratch fillers in an extremely short period of time. KLB-SYSTEM POLYURETHAN PU 5000 RX is then applied as next layer – the reactive RX scattering component RX-Abstreukomponente enables a fast hardening. After already 20 – 40 minutes of curing, the surface is ready to be sealed, also with PU 5000 RX.

Depending on the ambient temperature, the system has fully cured after 2 to a maximum of 6 hours and is chemically resistant after 3 days at 20 °C (68 °F).
